Following a full military career Carl Dakin CSyP FSyI transitioned into the commercial environment in 2013 and established a small consulting business that provides protective security and emergency management services to clients worldwide. His skillset includes the delivery of tabletop exercises, training and education design and delivery, that has enabled him to continue his passion for learning and facilitating educational programmes whilst remaining current with industry best practices.

His experience is underpinned by solid academic qualifications: Foundation Degree in Protective Security Management, Master’s Degree in Business Continuity, Security & Emergency Management, Level 5 Certificate in Work Based Learning, as well as a suite of relevant vocational qualifications in health & safety, and crowd management. He is a Chartered Security Professional – admitted to the Register in 2017, a Fellow of the Security Institute and is currently an active member of the Board of Directors, and sponsoring director of the Protest & Activism Special Interest Group (SIG), Protecting People in Crowded Places SIG and is a member of the Counter Terrorism and the Built Environment SIGs.

Mike Lees CSyP FSyI is a former Police Officer and currently the Head of Business Security at a busy acute Trust hospital in South Yorkshire where he has been in post for fifteen years. His current senior role ensures he is well versed in navigating the challenges of public sector security and resilience management. Academically, Mike holds a MSc in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management from the University of Leicester, a PGCE from Huddersfield University and NHS Security and Fraud qualifications awarded by Portsmouth University. He is a Fellow of the Security Institute, Business Continuity Institute and Emergency Planning Society and is a Chartered Security Professional. As a document, interview, and portfolio assessor for the Register he also serves on the Security Institute Membership Validation Board and Validation Board Working Group. Mike was awarded the Institute’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 2021 and is a committed member (Liveryman) of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.
